August was a great month. I got to spend a good chunk of it down in Mexico checking in on things. And there is a lot going on in the Jr High ministry. Praise God for His many blessings!

I started off the month down in Aguascalientes, Mexico. It was good to be back and to see my girls. We had lots of time to hang out and we went out for tacos, multiple times...I had to take advantage while I was there! After church, the Sunday that I was in Aguascalientes, we went to a town called Calvillo. It's a really pretty, colonial style town and it was nice to spend the day there. We had lunch, walked around, and went to the lake.

Summer vacation is over and Elvira has officially started her 2nd year of medical school. She definitely needed a break because the 1st year was very difficult; but now she is rested and ready to go. Good luck in your studies "mija" (my daughter). I'm very proud of you and praying for you every step of the way!

I saw fellow missionary Chevon a couple of times while I was down there. It was good to catch up and visit with her and see how well she is doing. Everything is stable in her life right now and she is back to a healthy weight...she loves to snack on her cookies and other treats. I was also able to take care of a list of things she needed done around the house. I installed a bar in her shower and made the home more senior friendly for her. Please keep praying for Chevon and her health.

I returned home on August 10th. I love being down in Aguascalientes but I had things to do back in San Diego. I flew home on a Saturday night so I could make it in time to teach my Sunday school class to the Jr Highers.

A part of Aguascalientes came to San Diego. My good friend Jorge, who is the youth pastor at the church I attend when I am in Mexico, crossed the border for a visit. He is a very talented musician and preacher so I invited him to take over the Jr High class one Sunday. He led worship and taught a lesson on making wise decisions for the Lord. It was his first time preaching in English and he did a great job! The kids really enjoyed it.

And I started a series on Creation vs Evolution. The Jr High kids really enjoyed it and I have never seen them so engaged. They kept asking questions and sharing comments throughout the lesson. We started off the series talking about the Big Bang. Did God create everything or did a huge explosion do it billions of years ago? And did life just evolve or was it created with a purpose? These are some of the topics we covered. And for an example, I brought in some Legos. I had built some things out of Legos and explained that they were put together very specifically and with intelligence, not randomly. To demonstrate this, I threw random Lego pieces at a tarp, trying to create something by chance. I did not succeed. There has to be intelligence behind the creation and that is where our Almighty God comes in.

We had an end of summer/back to school event for the Jr High kids. We went down to Mission Point and barbequed hamburgers & hot dogs, played on the beach and had a bonfire with smores. It was a great turnout and the kids really enjoyed it. They were all asking when the next event would be. It's a blessing to see them excited about hanging out with each other and forming friendships. It is a huge encouragement for me to see them wanting to get more involved with church activities.
