What's going on at Dulce Refugio
I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!
February has come and gone and things are busier than ever here at Dulce Refugio. We received 5 more kids this month (that's 19 total since the new year) and have been taking care of lots of things around the orphanage. We give thanks to God for the opportunity to care for these children and pray for the strength to continue in His mission.
Another 6 months has already gone by! I had to make the semi annual journey up to the border to renew my Visa & car permit. I spent 20 hours in the car to only spend 20 minutes in an office. It's a loooong trip for a piece of paper & a sticker but now I'm here legally and can continue to serve the Lord in Aguascalientes.
We received 5 new girls this month:
Jacqueline & Viviana are sisters that arrived this month. Jacqueline is now one of our older girls and helps out a lot in the kitchen. Viviana has made friends with the other new girls and loves to play. She always asks me to pick her up when I arrive in the morning. We hope to get her enrolled in school soon.
Oshi is one of our younger girls and she is a sweetheart. Oshi always has a smile on her face and lots of energy. She is fitting in nicely with everybody and is a joy to have in the Casa Hogar.
Daniela & Judith are sisters and they are both pretty mellow. They're a little shy but starting to come out of their shell. Daniela cries sometimes because she misses her "abuelita" (grandma). It's sad but we will do our best to cheer her up. Judith asks me almost everyday if "this Sunday are you gonna take us to the park?"
Not only is our family of children growing but also our animal family. We got a new Belgian Shepard. Her name is Merida and she is a tiny little puppy. I always find her in the kitchen searching for scraps of food. She's such a cutie.
We have more bunnies! One of our rabbits had babies. She eats a lot so I wasn't sure if she was just getting fatter or if she was pregnant. When I noticed her pulling out her hair (rabbits start pulling out their hair to make blankets for their newborns) I knew her babies were coming soon.
We have a new arrival coming soon. Alexandra, aka Wera (White girl), is due in March. The director of the orphanage organized a baby shower for her. All of the older girls and part of the staff attended. Wera grew up in Dulce Refugio and spent many years in the Casa Hogar. She currently lives outside but still shows up regularly to help out. Congratulations Wera!
I was able to finish tiling one of the bathrooms and got more than half way done on the 2nd bathroom. The floor is completely done and 3 of the 5 rows of tile for the walls are finished.
We have had some new volunteers showing up this past month. Victor Guerrero and Joel de la Rosa have been working on our hydroponics system and have plans to build a big garden for us. Thank you for your help guys.
And some excellent news! Nadia, although she is still sick, is feeling much better. After about a month in the hospital she was finally released. She will have to go back for regular treatments but she says she is no longer in pain. Nadia will not be returning to Dulce Refugio and is currently in a different facility which has 24 hour medical care. Please join us in continuing to pray for the sweet young woman.
