What's going on at Dulce Refugio
I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!
May was a great month. It was a nice change of pace as I got to go home to San Diego for 2 1/2 weeks and see my family & friends. It was good to get away for a bit but it was also nice to come back and see all of the kids again.
Spring break is over and the kids are now back in school....PRAISE GOD!! For their last day of vacation we took them to Eli's house (Eli used to live at Dulce Refugio and was in charge of the boy's building). It has a huge yard and a swimming pool. Since it was on a Sunday, we also had a church service there. It was a fun day and a nice way to close out their spring break.
I got to go home to San Diego for 2 1/2 weeks. I went home for Mother's Day and got to see lots of family while I was there. I went to my sister's house in Phoenix, AZ, to celebrate my nephew Collin's birthday and I also made it up to Los Angeles to see my brother and my other nephews.
Our garden is starting to grow! Mari, the woman in charge of the girl's building, planted a bunch of stuff before I left to San Diego and upon my return, I was happy to see that things are starting to grow.
I was able to advance some in the school in the days before and after my trip. The tiling on the 3rd floor hallway is coming along nicely.
We lost more help. David & Isaí moved to a new home. They go to the church I attend and were in the process of finding a place to live. In the meantime they were living at the orphanage and Isaí was helping out a lot with the boys. Good luck in your new place guys!
We also said goodbye to 2 kids this month:
Francisco (Pancho) was a good kid. He was really quiet but got along with everybody. I wasn't here when he left so I don't know where or with whom he went.
Giovanni also left when I was in San Diego so I don't have much information on him either. We had a few issues with Giovanni but he wasn't a bad kid. I wish both of them well.
We received 4 new kids this month but 3 of them were only with us for a very short time and have already left. Zuria is the only one that is still at the orphanage out of the 4. She is a sweet girl and very friendly. She is fitting in nicely with all of the other kids.
We have a group of students from Mexico City. Every year the school Ibero sends us people to help out. In Mexico there is a requirement of community service hours in order to graduate from a university and the students can fulfill that requirement at our orphanage. They will be here for about 6 weeks helping out wherever necessary. Their names are (from left to right) Pao, Kevin, Julio, Hector & Yithsaac.
