What's going on at Dulce Refugio
I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!
Well things are moving along here down at Dulce Refugio. In the month of March I was able to fix a lot of things (there is a lot of maintenance...the kids break everything!) and start the new project in our school. I started making the windows and they turned out pretty good for my first time.
3 windows down only about 30 more to go.
I had to install protection on the 2nd and 3rd floor bathroom windows of the girls dorm. We assumed that we would never have a problem with girls sneaking out of a window that high up but we were wrong! Apparently we have some ninjas at our orphanage. They snuck out of the 3rd story window (I circled it in the photo). Thank God they didn't get injured. It is very high up.
(I only used the safest scaffolding by setting a metal gate on the edge of the van...this would definitely meet US safety regulations. Haha)
We welcomed our newest addition to the Casa Hogar, Andrea.
And we said goodbye to Jazmin. She was a great young woman but due to some issues (like sneaking out of a bathroom window) we had to request a transfer to another orphanage.
We took the kids to a local church, "Comunidad Cristiana," and the little ones got all dressed up in their Sunday best. They're a bunch of cuties.
And later that Sunday I was able to take some of the older kids to the "green line." It is a line of grass that stretches for miles throughout the city and is full of parks, skate parks, exercise equipment, and many other things for kids and families. We took one of our dogs for a walk and had a good time hanging out.
We had a pool day. It's starting to get hot in Aguascalientes so we decided to fill up the pool for the first time in a while. Many of the new kids at the orphanage hadn't yet had a chance to swim in our pool and they had a blast going down the water slide and splashing around.
My "daughter" got sick! I have a bunny, named "bunny" (very original name, I know) and she got an ear infection. I had to take her to the vet and get her taken care of. It was a painful procedure so the vet had to give her anesthesia. After a few minutes she was out! And after everything she was dead weight. Thank God she is better now. The kids love bunny and she has become part of the Dulce Refugio family.
One of the ministries we support is a local church. Three times a weeks they have a feeding program and minister to local communities in Aguascalientes. We donate pizza to help feed the children and parents that come to the events. It is a such blessing to be able help other ministries with the pizza donations we receive...thank you Little Caesars!
I went to check out the ministry and had a great time with the kids. We played games and did a craft. The lesson was Psalms 92:13 "Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God" so we did a hand/flower craft. Can you tell which one is mine?
And at the end of the month, on March 30th, I flew back to San Diego. I have a few things to take care of and I plan on being back in Mexico by mid April.
