What's going on at Dulce Refugio
I know that many people have passed through this orphanage and left their mark at Dulce Refugio. I want to keep all of you informed about what is going on with the kids and the construction process. Please remember to keep us in your thoughts and prayers; I hope you continue to help us out here at Casa Hogar Dulce Refugio. Gracias amigos!
The new year has started and I'm back in the routine. Even though January got off to a rough start, things are back to normal and there is lots of ministry to be done.
A couple of days into the new year I got sick with covid. I just laid around for a week or two and watched a lot of Netflix. I was sick for about 5 days but decided to stay in quarantine for a little while after that. I couldn't go to the orphanage because I didn't want to spread anything, and since I am working with fellow missionary, Chevon, who is in her late 60's and has health issues, I definitely wanted to take all of the precautions before I went to her house. I feel fine now and am able to get back to work.
We started the new semester at the school on site at the orphanage. I had to skip the first two weeks due to covid but it was good to finally be back and teach my two English classes. The kids gave me a huge welcome and we were all excited to see each other.
I went outside the city to celebrate my friend Mario's birthday. We had a carne asada out on a ranch and I ate a ton! Mario is the brother of a friend of mine and I've gotten to know him over the past couple of months. When I met him, I noticed his wheelchair was pretty old and used. He told me he had been using the same wheelchair since 1987! It had been welded and repaired many times over the years. God put this man on my heart so I did some research on new wheelchairs. We found a good deal, took some measurements and ordered a new custom-sized chair. I brought it back from the States and they wrapped it in SO much plastic before putting it on the airplane! It got here in one piece and is now being used. Thank you to everyone who helps out and donates to the different ministries down here. It is really helping to bless so many people!
One of my girls, Ariana, had some cavities filled. The dentist, Miguel, is a friend of mine and is doing all of the work for free! I have gone to him over the years and he has always been so generous to me. Now he is taking care of my girls. What a blessing! In the past, I have done lots of jobs for him in his house. It's nice to be able to trade services and help each other out.
I finally got back to helping out Chevon. I went more than a month without seeing her because I went home for Christmas and then got sick when I got back to Mexico. We talked for a while and decided that we need to prioritize finding her a new home. Please keep that in your prayers, that God will lead us to the right place, and quickly! Also please pray for Chevon's health. Her left arm is bothering her. It has swollen up and is restricting most of the usage of her left hand.
And finally, I'm so happy to announce that my niece, Kennedy Jean Seski, was born on January 18, 2022! She is the first girl in our immediate family and we are so excited. Kennedy is going to be such a daddy's girl and she will be spoiled with love. I have a trip home planned in February so I will get to meet her soon. I can't wait!
