What's going on in Aguascalientes
There is a lot going on down here in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I want to keep you all informed with the highlights each month. Thank you to all who pray for and support these ministries. We are able to bless so many people and we couldn't do it without you. To God be all the glory. Gracias amigos!
April has been a busy month. Lots of work and also lots of fun. I've taken on some smaller projects and the girls had a 2 week vacation from school. Plus there's always time with the kids at the orphanage.
We welcomed Amelia Kamila Santos Contreras into this world. She was born on April 3, 2022. Amelia is the daughter of Ale (aka "Wera" which means white girl in Spanish). I have known Wera since she was a little girl in the orphanage and now she is all grown up. Amelia is her second child. Her first child, Elias, turned 4 on April 6 and they threw a party for him. There was a pool, a piñata that I was in charge of holding from the 2nd story window, lots of snacks and good company. It's cool that we are still in contact and have a good relationship after all of these years. Please keep Wera and her family in your prayers and may God bless her and her two beautiful children.
My girls had 2 weeks off from school for their spring break. I planned lots of activities for them and made sure they had a fun vacation. We hiked one of the mountains here in Aguascalientes, we went to the movies, we went bowling and we went on the rides at the local fair. The San Marcos Fair is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Aguascalientes and it comes for about 3 weeks every year. It was great getting to spend so much time with them.
Also during their vacation, the girls got to go to the dentist. They were very excited about that! Haha. Thanks to my friend/dentist, Miguel, all of the work is being done for free. He cleaned all of their teeth, filled in some cavities, made mouth guards and will soon be taking out their wisdom teeth. We have helped each other out over the years and I am very grateful for what he does. I have done lots of work in his house, and this month I welded some window protections and an overhang that will go over his door to keep rain out. What a blessing to be able to help each other out with our services!
It's been pretty hot here lately but out of the blue, we had a night of very heavy winds and rain. It even started hailing for a while! Well, with those heavy winds, it ripped off a section of the skylight in the girls dorm at the orphanage. I had to buy a new piece of laminate for the roof, lift it up with a rope and install it. This is one of the most dangerous jobs I have had to do because I'm standing on a very thin aluminum bar almost 4 stories in the air in order to put some of the screws in. Praise God everything went smoothly!
And, at the orphanage, we celebrated Mia's birthday. Mia is the granddaughter of the director, Marce. It was a very fun day and all of the kids got to celebrate. There were multiple pools (with some pretty murky water by the end of the day) and lots of treats. We ate tacos and a variety of desserts. It's always fun to just hang out with the kids and celebrate instead of worrying about work or their chores.
