What's going on in Aguascalientes
There is a lot going on down here in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I want to keep you all informed with the highlights each month. Thank you to all who pray for and support these ministries. We are able to bless so many people and we couldn't do it without you. To God be all the glory. Gracias amigos!
June was a rough month. Definitely not one of my best but I'm happy to say that things are all back in order and I can return to the ministry that God has for me.
I got back to Aguascalientes on June 3rd after about a week and a half in California. It was nice to go home and see friends & family.
Upon my arrival to Aguascalientes, I found bed bugs! It was about 2am and I was ready to sleep after my trip when I noticed some things moving on my mattress. I started looking around and noticed there were quite a few of them. I immediately put my sheets, blankets and pillows in plastic bags and set up a futon in the other room. Later I called an exterminator and he fumigated 2 times. A friend in the church came and cleaned my couches and futon with his special machine. What a difference that made! I washed every piece of clothing that I had and I also threw out my bed and the base and purchased new ones. I wanted to be sure everything was gone so I waited to bring in the new bed. I slept on a little futon on the floor for exactly 4 weeks and was so thankful for my new bed when it came. What a nightmare this was! I don't know where the bed bugs came from, I'm just glad they're gone!!!
Some more tiles started lifting up at the orphanage. Last month I fixed the dining hall but now they were coming up in another room where the kids have their church service. I had a deadline because we had a wedding at the orphanage this month. I pulled up all of the old tiles and put new ones down. Kyleigh, a fellow volunteer, grouted the tiles after I finished and we had the floor ready in time for the big day. Pilar & Cesar had a nice ceremony with all of the kids and family members. Pilar grew up in the Dulce Refugio orphanage and I have known her since 2007 when she was a lil girl. It was great to be there on her special day and I wish her and Cesar the best!
At our girls home, the girls finished school for the year. The school they go to put on a dance presentation and invited all of the parents. Elvira has been studying traditional Mexican dance and Ariana Arabic dance. They didn't want me taking pictures of them but like a good father, I did anyways haha. Now they are on summer break and will be starting work soon.
We also celebrated Mary's birthday. Mary lives with the girls, and she and I are responsible for taking care of them. All of us went to an all you can eat buffet and left stuffed!
I helped organize the workshop of a "pastora" (pastor's wife). I've attended their church a couple of times and wanted to bless her. She is always organizing events for the church and does a lot for others. Her work space was a little disorganized and she mentioned that she wanted shelves and other things hung on the wall. I brought the material and now she will have a nice/organized place to plan her events and get everything ready. Even though I don't regularly attend this church, it's always nice when the body of Christ comes together to bless one another.
And finally, I found a companion for Chevon. I brought her a little puppy to keep her company. One of my friend's chihuahuas had puppies and he was looking for a good home for them. Chevon is feeling better health wise and is confident that she will be able to take care of a smaller breed. I helped fix up some areas in the house so the dog wouldn't be able to get into everything. Hopefully it will be a good match and make her very happy!
